THE Zambia Institute of Estate Agents (ZIEA) plans to collaborate with Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) in the promotion and development of real estate investment in the country. ZIEA chairperson Saul Kiwepindi said the institute has already written to the agency, adding that the legal department at ZDA is currently reviewing it. He said this in an interview in Lusaka recently.
“We have drafted a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which has been taken to ZDA for the two (ZIEA and ZDA) to join forces in order to develop investment in the sector and for the local members to share expertise with the investors,” he said.
Mr Kiwepindi said the MoU will provide an equitable opportunity to both the local and foreign agents to share experience.
He said the partnership will allow ZIEA to be responsible for providing investors with professional advice on the availability of real estate investment prospects in the country and recommend its members to handle specific investment assignments as investors’ needs arise. Other objectives of the MoU are to provide a list of registered agents to ZDA and recommend the levels of business each can handle in the interest of efficiency.  Mr Kiwepindi said the institute will also sign a MoU with Copperbelt University this month through the Built-in-Environment department at the university to provide a diploma course in the real estate sector in the 2012 -2013 academic year.   He said the MoU between the university and the institute will fill up the exiting gaps in the sector and will also maintain good standards of professionalism in the industry.
